This was the first book I read that concentrated on the Middle Ages and particularly Gothic sculpture and architecture. Elie Faure is a passionate writer and he instills the book with brilliant observations. I would especially recommend this book to those who enjoyed Ken Follet's The Pillars of the Earth and wanted a more factual recounting of art during this period.
